My husband was involved in an auto accident (he was drinking) in November of 1998. He was left a quadriplegic. He has no interest in trying to improve. He is very hostile to my kids and me with his words. He is running my 18 year old son off and my 14 year old daughter is so influenced by this that she shakes all the time. I am wanting to divorce him but am not sure as to what the legal ramifications of that would be. He cannot work but does get social security monthly. If I divorced him, and he went into a nursing home - none of his family will take him in - would I be responsible for helping pay for that? I would also be responsible for my two children.

Please let me hear back from you. He is driving my kids crazy and slowly killing me and we have to get away from him.

My response:

The first thing you do, if you're absolutely serious about this, is to sit down with him and let him know of your intentions. Then, you let him know that HE is the one that can stop this snowball from crashing down the hill IF he agrees to Marital Counseling WITH you.

The moment he starts saying "No" or hemming and hawing about it, tell him, that's fine but "now you're on your own" and I'm seeing an attorney tommorow.

That'll shake his world.
