What is the name of your state? Michigan

I am attempting to file for divorce in the state of Michigan, (Livingston county) when my wife has lived in North Carolina for the past 2 years. We do have a child, and there is a custody agreement in place in North Carolina courts.

I am trying to fill out these papers (Divorce complaint, custody and visitation forms, and settlement agreement) and at the end, when it asks for our signatures, it asks for both mine and my wifes (as I expected) and also two witnesses signatures for each... As well as a notary public.

Where the Notary Public section is, it states:

***************************************
_________________________
(Signature of Notarial Officer)

Notary Public for the State of Michigan

My comission expires: ______________

***************************************

My questions are these.. First, does this want me, my two witnesses, her, and her two witnesses to all sign this in front of a Michigan notary? Considering the circmstances, that seems excessive..

Also, I am looking to do this as cheaply as possible.. Would it be possible for me to sign and get my signature notarized here in Michigan, then send it to her to get her signature and it notarized by a notarial officer of the state of North Carolina?

We are trying to avoid more plane trips then is necessarry.. I asked the court about this and they said, "I have no idea. You will have to consult with an lawyer on that." Isn't this sorta their thing to know?

These papers cost $260 to file here.. The last thing I want is to be told that I have to do them again because something wasn't right..

Thanks in Advance,
Dennis

You can get them notarized separately.
