hello,

my name is bill and i am a student and 21-years old. i live in illinois. my problem is i hate my parents. they were horrible and the source of many problems in my childhood. now that i am older i don't want anything to do with them anymore. to give me some closure i want to know if it is possible to divorce them. i don't want their names in my birth certificate nor do i want to be associated with them in any way. is it possible to do something like or similar to this? can you tell what options i have? your advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can not remove them from your B/C. As regards to everything else, just keep away from them, change your phone number, move and don't give them your address. Make sure you have a Will that does not give them anything etc..

Oh, and get some counseling to help you with your anger!

Good luck.

Hate is a destructive emotion

Hope you'll follow LB's advice and seek professional help for your own peace of mind.

By the way, indifference, not hate, is the opposite of love. If your feeling toward your parents is truly generated by mistreatment by them, you are old enough to not be tied to them in any way, shape or form. Simply distance yourself. You don't need a divorce, nor can you change the facts of your birth.
