I live in New York state. After I married a man I found out that he was still legally married to another woman. am I married to this man also? do I need to get a divorce or an annulment? I left him as soon as i found out that he was married to someone else and I haven't had any thing to do with him since.

I AM ALWAYS LIABLE

My response:

You'll need an annulment. Such proceeding is necessary so that you can obtain an adjudication that your marriage to him was invalid. If you don't, your next marriage will be bigamous. Remember, your current marriage license and certificate is on file and, as far as the State is concerned, you're married. So, you need to get those papers voided by the court.

Good luck to you.
