i was wanting to know, we are fixing to get a divorce, since we were together all last year, will we have to file our income tax together? i need to know, iam trying to get my income tax information together b/c i have a son fixing to start college, my soon to be ex, puts me in alot higher tax bracket, so my son will not be able to get any kind of grants, etc. can you give me any advice on how to handle this situation? my husband thinks that children should be able to pay their own way in school, and that we shouldn't just shell out money to them, he didn't have any help and had to get loans etc. for his education, so even though we can financially help them he feels that they are 18 and need to find their way on their own. i totally disagree so this is causing a real problem, therefore he wants a divorce and i don't know what to do, we have deadlines to meet, for college grants etc, and i don't know what to do! he has one son in his second year of college ( he lives with his mother, so she handled all of the paper work for him ), i have four children, 17 and under, none of them his, they are from my first marriage. we had a pretty good thing going till this college situation came up and everything has pretty much been hell since, i have to take care of my kids, and he has been pretty supportive till the college situation came up---help!
