What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
Some of you may remember me posting a little while back about my ex husband in the witness relocation program with a new identity.
Well, I finally was able to get a Summary Dissolution filed under his new identity. However, in order to see a judge and ask him to dissolve our old marriage under his old name as well as sealing the record, I have to be able to know how to file a motion for such a thing.
I'm on unemployment and can't afford to hire an attorney. So far, I found one who will do the motion for $300 so I was thinking about trying to find a paralegal to do it for half the price if possible. I'm fairly smart so I may be able to figure out how to do it myself, but I don't know.
I just wanted to update you on this and thank you very much for your support. If anyone knows how to file such motions or has any advice, it would be most appreciated. My county clerk has been pretty much leaving me high and dry in the process. In Los Angeles, they don't even tell you what steps to take anymore. Instead, they give you a list of self help centers. In my case, I've gone to a lot of those and they have no idea how to help me since my case is so unique. It has been my experience that my only options are to hire an attorney (which I can't afford), or figure out how to do it myself.
