My husband and I are planning a divorce. He has inherited property that he can sell. Am I entitled to any of the money that he gets from selling the property? Before our plans, he has verbally stated that this property is our future. Also, I have helped my husband pay his monthly payments on his new truck. Can I sue him for all the money I have put towards this truck?

My response:

No, to everything. A gift, or an inheritance, to one party never becomes the marital property to another - - unless there is a writing stating otherwise. As for the truck, and all other personal property, the court will divide up everything, including debts and assets of the marriage, according to your State guidelines.
