In the state of California if a husband contributes the down payment to purchase a home with his spouse is he legally entitled to be reimbursed the amount of the down payment when the property is sold in a divorce, or will both parties share the equity equally?

Does it matter if the down payment was a gift from the husband's mother?

If the couple did not marry until a couple of months after the purchase, is the answer different.
