a friend is in the process of divorce in the state of virginia. both husband and wife are using the same attorney....how does wife remove her name after divorce is final from debts that husband has agreed to pay such as mortgage, auto loans, credit accounts ect.?

Make sure that the other party refinances or sells the security for the debt (car, home, etc.).

Also, close all joint credit accounts and VERIFY that they are CLOSED.

Finally, you could publish a 'No longer responsible for' notice in local publications.
