I live in PA;
I am 36yo and an only child; my parents are getting a divorce after 39 years of marriage bc of recent & continual abuse. Even though I am happy they are finally splitting, I was hoping they could part amicably. They originally agreed as we are the only ones in our family. (no other living relatives.) My mother's attorney wanted to use me in court. My father's attorney requested speaking to me first. I agreed. We had a nice conversation. However, after our "nice conversation" he came to the conclusion that I am "mentally unstable" and has told my father so. Additionally, this attorney told my father to accept the fact that he no longer has a daughter. So, after 36 years, I was told by my father that he no longer has a daughter.

I am furious bc there is no reason for this attorney to have said such a thing to my father - to purposely alienate his only child. Additionally, I am concerned about my professional reputation. I work in the financial industry. My first employer was his financial consultant and the financial world is small. I manage plans for fortune 500 companies. My career could be damanged by that language. Is this defamation of character? I already lost my father bc of conversations that took place without me being present. I can't afford to lose my employment.

Do I have a case against this attorney? What type of attorney do I need to get?
