Please help with Advice!

I live in Florida. In June 2000 my boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer. I invited him and his 14 year old son to move into my garage apartment for the summer while recovering from surgery and subsequent radiation therapy. During this time he filed a petition to modify child support because of his inability to work during his cancer treatment. My boyfriend and son stayed the entire summer. He quickly went through his savings and in September had to go on public assistance. The cancer therapy proved debilitiating and his treatment and recovery lasted for a full year. During the summer of 2000 my boyfriends ex-wife and her new husband called me repeatively and asked for money. They stated their house was in forclosure, cars were being repossessed, electric bills, phone bills, etc. etc. They treatened me, harassed me, and stalked me. I scheduled a citizens dispute hearing with the State Attorney. We agreed on NO contact. When school started that year the 15 year old refused to go home. His mother had changed the locks on her door. He was upset. (Father cancer - mother locks him out) With only a backpack full of clothes he stayed. His father filed for custody. The mother would not give custody to the father and the wait began...(she wanted the child support) the mother continued to allow the son to live with me. I totally supported this child in every way!!! His father was on public assistance. My bills mounted. I have two children of my own. In September 2001 my boyfriend finally had a hearing for the petition to modify child support and custody. He was awarded custody of his son. Child support was modified to zero but, he owes arrearages for the past 16 months. Is there ANY way I could recover the monies I spent on this child for the entire year?
I want to recover the money from the custodial parent (mother) during the year he was in my care. Also, I should mention, on September 10, 2001 I received a court ordered protection order against the ex-wife for repeat violence of stalking. The protection order is permenant! The phone calls and threats and aggressive nature were relentless during the past year. I also had to hire an attorney for the Protection Order - more money. Please help. My bills are outrageous.
