I live in Minnesota. I broke the engagement with a man I had dated for three years. It was agreed I would quit my job and I would be put half on all of his assets as security for my future. He backed out on that and I called it quits. However, I am left with no job, no income, and plenty of my own bills. This man has plenty of money. For six months he has left his truck, boat, belongings (some furniture) at my house and made no attempt to retrieve it despite several letters from me requesting he do so. Now, he wants his furniture back. I can't afford a living room set or bedroom set and he can EASILY buy these items. Can he take me to small claims court to get these items back or are they considered to be abandoned by him and remain my property? Can he take me to small claims court to get the engagement ring back? I need to sell it just to pay health insurance one more month until I find a job. I'll never do anything again without getting it in writing first! Costly lesson learned to have to start over at fifty years old because you trusted someone.

Thanks.

If you have copys of those letters make sure to bring them with you to court If you are sued , It will show that you did ask him to deal with the things , the other money issues you may end up having to just consult a law firm but with out written agreement that part may just be lost cause
