This is a simple version of the case. I shared a dorm (suite style) with two other people. After some time within months, something happened where one of my suite-mate's debit card was stolen sometime before she left for Thanksgiving break, and nearly $1000 was taken. When we came back from break I came across some clues as to what happened and how I was getting involved in it. Nearly 3 weeks later, before winter break began, several police officers and two detectives came to my dorm, presented a ridiculous warrant, took my computers as evidence, interrogated me and removed me from the dorm. I was not arrested, but highly embarrassed because I was placed in the back of a police car in front of many students. They took my computers and held them as evidence for over 6 months. Aside from the inconvenience, my mother had to turn to a lawyer to retrieve my property and to make sure nothing was put onto my record. In the end nothing was proven, but despite lack of evidence and solid alibis, I was the center of the investigation, despite us having another roommate, who was never questioned. There are more details to this story, but can I sue both the girl and the police for defamation of character and other things as well? I believe that this was a racial issue.

A: You can't sue the cops for defamation. As far as the other girls, you have not given us any facts showing that they (or anyone else for that matter) defamed you.
