What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MD

Good afternoon, I'll be getting a total knee replacement in May. Recovery times vary due to the person, but I believe I'm realistically looking to be out about 12 weeks. I have to use my vacation & sick time which amounts to 3 weeks. After that I'll have nothing, because my insurance doesn't offer short term disability. Is there anything I can do to apply for STD while I'm out recuperating, so I can still pay my bills & maintain a roof over my head?
