i am single and not w/ the father of my newborn child. i do not want to "go after" child support. he helps out in the ways he can right now, and plans to help out more later on in the year. we are trying to work on our relationship, and in turn our son is being taken care of very well. how can i get around the child support agency? and since i was on medical assistance, how do i keep him from paying 1/2 of the birth cost? if i don't "go after" child support now, will i be able to in the future if i need to? the father's name is not on the birth certificate.

I take it you are not married. You have the choice of going after child support only if you do not receive any kind of state benefits. You stated you were on medicaid, if you still are you must do the support, if not you can drop it. If you are wise you will go ahead and have the paternity issue settled at least. Since you were not married later down the line he may not agree that the child is his so easy. You can go to the local child support agency to file the paternity paperwork which will be come a court order for paternity only.
