I owed money to a cellular phone company. The payment was late but i paid them in full. A few days later I received a letter from a collection agency for the amount of the bill plus their fees. I called and explained I had already paid it and they said I still owed them for their fees which comes out to about $60. I had already paid the bill before they had done anything. The letter was dated the exact date I had paid phone company. I did electronic pay over the phone during early morning hours (definately before they were up writing letters). They say it doesn't matter and if i don't pay they would put it on my credit report. I know it's a small amount of money but I feel I shouldn't pay them for work they didn't do! I have excellent credit and don't want this to ruin it. They are in Massachusettes I am in Texas. Do I have to pay?

I'd tell 'em to pound sand.
Now, let me say I doubt you have excellent credit. To get to a collection agency, you have to be very late with the payment. Creditors aren't worried about $60 here and there. It's the pattern of a bunch of late pays that is worrisome. Just because you eventually pay, doesn't mean all is forgiven if it's months overdue.
