I was involved in a car accident in late March. Both my passenger and I are still receiving treatment for this accident. I am curious to know whether or not I need a lawyer. The "at-fault" party and I have the same insurance company, so I have not had to deal with alot of the "horror stories" I have read. I am only wondering if I can receive compensation for lost school time and be refunded for a dropped semester of college (due to inability to attend classes and carry a bookbag) I am getting reimbursed for damage to my car, fees for a rental, doctor bills, and lost time off work...would this be considered "greedy?" A friend of mine who is studying law said that I should get compensated for my semester and my books, but I need a lawyer. This friend also told me that the lawyer fees, if I win, would be covered by the other party's insurance. I would appreciate any advice. I just want to know how accurate my friend's advice is?

My response:

Your friend has given you sound advice. You are entitled to all damages suffered "flowing" from the negligence. Also, it would be wise to check to see whether Illinois is an auto accident "fault" or "no fault" State. "No-fault" laws could severly restrict your rights to recovery and, could even leave you with a balance owing, despite the other driver's negligence.

Get yourself a Personal Injury Attorney as soon as possible.
