What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

My spouse and I have been separated for almost 7 years now and we have an 8 year old son. We get along great, he pays me the appropriate child support, we have no issues with custody or visitation, the are 0 marital assets that need to be addressed, and we have no interest in eachothers pension, annuities, etc. We have been unable to do anything legally thus far due to financial restrictions. We have been living as if we were legally divorced for quite some time now and it never really mattered much to either of us, however I would now like to re-marry so I am looking to do this as simply and cost effective as possible. It would be 100% uncontested and neither of I'd really care about what the specifics are, as we will continue to do things as we've been doing. I have looked in to sites advertising "do it yourself divorce" for as little as $295, not including filing fees of course. Can it be that simple? Are there reputable sites out there for this? Can I file the paperwork myself simply? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Consumer Reports just did an article this month (received it in the mail today) on do it yourself sites. They state that only the simplest easiest legal matters should EVER be handled this way -- such as you want your spouse to inherit EVERYTHING. Anything more complicated than that they suggest getting counsel because it may turn out badly.
