Can those ex IRS guys, etc really help me get a deal on my income tax? I have around $25k owing and paying off minimum payments as per what I can afford and am wondering if those IRS "experts" can cut a better deal like they say in the adds. My own feeling is that it would just cost me a lot of money that goes nowhere?

And your feeling would generally be correct. Those offer mills generally charge between 4-6k and their success rate is quite low. I am a tax professional myself and I personally know of no one who got anywhere using one of those firms...but know of dozens who paid the money without any positive results.

They largely are blowing smoke. OIC's are used by the feds only as a very last resort when they don't think they can get a pound of flesh any other way.

Several of the big names were disbarred or otherwise forced to stop the business (Roni Lynn Deutch, JK Harris).
