I WAS SEEN IN AN EMERGENCY ROOM YESTERDAY.THE DOCTOR ORDERED A TEST FOR ME THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE PATIENT IN THE NEXT BED.I QUESTIONED THE NURSE THAT TOLD ME TO DRINK BARIUM FLUID IF I REALLY SHOULD?I HAD HER CHECK MY I.D. BRACELET AND SHE CONFIRMED IT.AFTER DRINKING 1/2 OF THE FLUID IN THE CUP,I SEEN A NURSE AND ASKED WHY THIS TEST WAS BEING DONE? SHE CHECKED WITH THE DOCTOR AND TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT SEE MY APPENDIX WITH THE ULTRA SOUNED.I THEN TOLD HER THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ANY APPENDIX I HAD THEM REMOVED WHEN I WAS 15 AND THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN ULTRA SOUND TEST.THE DOCTOR THEN CAME IN AND TOLD ME THAT HE HAD MADE A MISTAKE.I WAS HISTERICAL NOT KNOWING WHAT THIS WOULD DO TO ME.I ASKED THE DOCTOR TO REMOVE THE I.V.JUST THEN MY BROTHER WALKED PAST I YELLED TO HIM TO COME IN AND TAKE ME HOME.HE ASKED ME WHY I WAS SO UPSET?I EXPLAINED WHAT HAD TAKEN PLACE.THE DOCTOR THEN TOLD MY BROTHER THAT IT WAS HIS FAULT HE HAD ORDERED THE WRONG TEST BY MISTAKE.I HAVE CONTACTED THE HOSPITAL TO FILE A COMPLAINT.THEY WILL CALL TOMORROW.IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE SURE THIS DOCTOR DOESN'T DO THIS TO ANYONE ELSE?I GOT LUCKY. HE COULD HAVE KILLED ME.

Although the barium wouldn't have killed you, the doctor did make a mistake, they're humans too. The complaint to the hospital should be enough. What do you need to gain?
His license is secure, he was aware that the mistake was his, taking responsibility. If there's a track record, more severe measures will be taken, but an isolated incident that didn't endanger you, won't gain you as much as you imagine, if you expect to sue. Sorry for the stress though.PS
