What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

Sorry if this is kinda long

I basically lost my temper and left my husband of five years, I went back to the house (both names on Mortgage) after about a month to get some things. He wasn't watching so I grabbed all our current financial documents (bascially one file drawer) I didn't ask but he didn't say not to. I emailed him to ask if I could bring an apraiser, he said yes but he may or may not be there. I arrived before the apraiser and both his cars were in the driveway, I called on my cell to let him know I was coming in to get my mail & a few other things. He had changed the locks, So I called several more times because I knew he was inside & not coming to the door. So I called the Sherif and when he arrived I instructed him to break in. He asked me If I lived here, I told him I had to leave because my husband was going to beat me. He asked me If I reported this to the police, but I hadn't. He asked me if I had seen a doctor, but I hadn't. The Sherrif told me to leave, I got angry with him and asked for his badge # so I could report him. My husband is saying that the police report is evidence of slander since he never actually touched me. And that futher more I incriminated my self by showing up at the house of the man that was abusing me, alone at ready to barge in after a phone call to get my mail. He want's me to take a cash lump of about 1/4 of the 115,000 I'm entitled to by California common law. Does he have a case?

You were angry and left, false claims of domestic violence can cause you problems, the sheriff is not going to break down the door on your say so without a court order. You can collect your personal belongings with a court order, you may need a police/sheriff escort/standby or lock smith.
Here is a link to the Superior Courts for California, Check out the site for your county, the Family Law Faciliator's office and the self help sections where many of your questions will be answered as much as they can be answered.
http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/trial/courtlist.htm
In most cases unless you come to court already represented by counsel, you will ordered to orientation and mediation.
It is also possible for your husband to get a domestic violence restraining order against you.
I strongly suggest you retain an attorney.
