Does it matter what condition our credit history is in before we file bankruptcy?

What is the name of your state? CA

Does it matter if we have spotless, excellent credit at the time we file bankruptcy vs having late payments, collections, etc.?

Or does it not matter either way?

It doesn't matter in the least. Most people who file BK already shot credit, and those who don't.. well, it tanks after you file. Some will argue that having good credit before you file makes it a bit easier to rebuild after BK, although I don't think there are any statistics to support that notion.
