What is the name of your state? Mn

You could let him know...is it really in your kids' best interest to nitpick?

Does your ex have an attorney?

If he does, he's not required to serve you with copies, but sending them anyway is not wrong or illegal.

If he does not have an attorney, he is required to serve you copies of everything he files, just as you are required to serve him with copies of everything you file.

Actually ,the poster is correct. MN Law prohibits parties from self service by mail.

Service by mail shall be made only by the sheriff or by any other person who is at least 18 years of age who is not a party to the proceeding. Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 518.5513 (2000), an employee of the county agency may serve documents on the parties

Thanks for the info- note to self- MN is different than most states when it comes to service requirements.:)

Does the law state what can happen when a party serves by mail?

Generally... service is deemed ineffective, however, I don't suspect the court would know unless the party being served made it an issue. People lie on proofs of service all day long.

I agree- unless the served party objects to the method of service (which basically buys one about a week of time) the court would be unlikely to even question whether service was proper
