What is the name of your state? - Tennessee

I got pregnant at 13 by a 17 year old. We married when I was 14 with parental consent. I gave birth at 14. We divorced 1.5 years into the marriage.

Question - Can I file statutory rape charges even though we were married?
- If so, is there a time limit?

Thanks in advance for the help.

My response:

Why? Isn't there something else you could be doing in the old Trailer Park?

Have you checked the tire pressure lately?

When you went to court for your divorce, did you bring along your "blanky" or your Teddy Bear? We're you in your "jammies" and little "booties", too?

. . . and people on this site ACTUALLY question me why I think people from the Appalachian States, like Tennessee, are a bunch of dufus Hillbillies. With your post, there's no question about it. My theory has been proven.

Actually, I'm no longer a minor. Hence the question about time limit. The prior stated marriage took place in 1996. I no longer live in TN, but now reside in Texas.

Some new unwelcome contact from the ex-husband is the reason for the question, however ignorant you may believe it to be.

Also, your assumtion that someone who gets knocked up is destined to live off the government in a substandard home is incorrect. I did complete my college degree and work to support my family. However, I did not study law which is why I'm asking my question.

A real answer would be appreciated or at least a point in the right direction.

Hey IAAL,

I love your end of year posts, tho I think perhaps you should "advertise" that you are getting ready to post so regulars can add their 2 cents worth and you can take a peek at them. (I know, you really have all that extra time to read them).

But really, even if this kid lives in a trailer and gets welfare, don't you think she deserves a legal answer to her question? If the kid was smart enuf to do a search, find this site, register and post a question, why not at least give em a shot at answering the question. I know, a simple search on this site would yield the answer to the question, but they've come this far, why not shout out the answer. Believe me, I am not happy about them having a child at that age (mine are 25, 23, 16 & 11, motto "Don't be a parent until you can pay rent", and they still don't have kids). Just give the kid a little leeway and be a little nice with your answer, kay? :D

MY RESPONSE: It doesn't matter whether you're a minor or an adult, now. What matters is that you said, "I got pregnant at 13". Also, and I can't believe this, you said: "We married when I was 14 with parental consent." Parental consent??? Who ARE those people - - Ma and Pa Kettle??

The prior stated marriage took place in 1996. I no longer live in TN, but now reside in Texas.

MY RESPONSE: You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl. In other words, you'll always be a Hillbilly.

Some new unwelcome contact from the ex-husband is the reason for the question, however ignorant you may believe it to be.

MY RESPONSE: Yeah, he probably wants to see his child. How horrible!!

Also, your assumtion that someone who gets knocked up is destined to live off the government in a substandard home is incorrect.

MY RESPONSE: Yeah? Well, dear, when was the last date you picked up a Welfare check?

I did complete my college degree and work to support my family.

MY RESPONSE: Good for you! But, there's only so much you can do with a degree in "Animal Husbandry" in Texas.

However, I did not study law which is why I'm asking my question.

MY RESPONSE: Really? I would never have guessed it.

How does it feel to be able to play on a "Jungle Gym" and in the "sandbox" with your kid, and be young enough to still actually ENJOY playing on a "Jungle Gym" and in the "sandbox"?

Dear Charming One, (aka: IAAL)

No, there were no firearms at the wedding. :) And I'm proud of the fact that I've never been on welfare of any sort.

Not that it matters... I'm sure your amusing tirade will continue, but I'm not from TN. I lived in CA prior to moving to TN at 11 with my parents. :)

My response:

Why would ANYONE move to one of the Dufus States?

Do you see, and understand, what Appalachian States do to people?

They immediately start saying things like, "Duh yup!"
