I live in Texas. I have heard that there is no alimony here and I have also heard that there is so I am confused.
My situation is that I have only been married for two months. It's not working. She packed up her stuff and left 3 days ago. I havent been able to speak to her since. I am just trying to protect myself now. If we cannot work things out and have to end I am unsure if we would be able to argue for an annulment on the grounds of physical handicap. She has a terminal illness which makes it vital that she have insurance. Currently she is on mine. Since weve been married I have been paying for everything. If we do have to and get divorced, is there any way that she might be able to get the courts to say she can stay on my insurance if were not together and/or would I have to pay her any kind of support since she is unable to hold a fulltime job. Her family was paying for all her health expenses before I came along. She can work when she is healthy. She can (and has done in the past) actually do things that would make her so much more money than I could make. I was trying to be the nice guy and volunteered to not divorce her and keep her on my insurance if she paid me monthly payments until one of us got remarried. After thinnking about it for a long long time though, that unfortunately is an unrealistic possibility. Who knows when we might get remarried and if she does go into the hospital I do not want to get stuck with the bill. Unfortunately I also had written her a letter as saying I wouldnt divorce her and I would keep her on my insurance but I never signed it. Would this be able to constitute a binding agreement? Even if we were no longer married?? Also, can she contest the divorce? If she does, what happens then??
