Hello. my name is donna and i live in bradenton florida. My question is i was bitten by a pitbull that crossed the road to get to me. the owner has refused to acknowledge that the dog even existed, much less caused my injuries. my 7 year-old daughter was witness to this and i may have to go through rabies shots. what are my legal rights? i was also required to recieve medical care at the emergency room.

Hello Donna

Based upon the information you posted, you have plenty going for you. The actual injury, hospital report, your medical insurance, homeowners insurance, witnesses, followup medical by your doctor, police reports, lost time at work, etc. if appliable.

What you need to do is document the entire incident to begin building a case. Acquire the name of the dog owner by asking neighbors etc., have the dog picked up by the local pound through the police department and or health department agencies available by asking at the hospital etc., request an attorneys advise if need be, if you are unable to afford one and if needed.

The mere fact that the dog owner failed to acknowledge that the dog even existed or caused the injuries, may imply it has bitten someone prior or that person has much more to hide.

Regards and Get Well.
Sincerely,
