What is the name of your state? PA

I had a business domain registered with Registerfly.com. It was going to expire 12/12, so I renewed on 12/8. I received an error message, so I tried again - and received another error message - yet I received two payment receipts.

Since Registerfly did not show the renewal, I submitted a support ticket. I received a response that did not address the issue. I continued to receive renewal notices, so I submitted additional support tickets. I kept getting responses that advised me to wait 24 hours.

I finally called the company on 12/13. After waiting on hold for 20+ minutes, someone told me it would be processed within 24 hours.

On 12/15, my business web site went down. Customers were no longer able to view the site or contact me using my business email addresses. I contacted Registerfly again on 12/15. After waiting on hold for 20+ minutes, someone got on the line and disconnected me. I called back, waited another 20+ minutes and was promised the problem would be resolved within 24 hours. Of course, it was not.

I've tried calling twice since 12/15 and waited on hold for more than an hour each time (toll calls) before giving up. I also tried the phone number provided on my payment receipt, but it's been disconnected.

At the time I registered my domain with Registerfly, they were a reseller for ENOM, which is the company listed as the registrar of record. I tried to contact ENOM about the problem and was first referred back to Registerfly. I've since sent 6 emails to various departments/individuals (including the legal department), but have not received a response.

I've also contacted ICANN, the company that accredited Registerfly, with no response other than an automated message along the lines of "we will forward your complaint to the registrar and we hope you can work it out."

I filed a complaint with the BBB of NJ, which has a large number of complaints against Registerfly. I've heard nothing from them.

I also contacted the US Dept of Commerce, which I understand formed an agreement with ICANN that allows them to oversee domain registrations. Not surprisingly, I've received no response.

Words can't express my frustration at this point. I've put a great deal of time and money in developing my website and hosting with a reliable host. I'm sickened that it's down simply because the registrar didn't process my renewal - despite charging me for it twice.

Since this incident, I've searched the internet and found there are hundreds, if not thousands, of similar horror stories posted on various websites. I don't understand how Regsiterfly is getting away with this. Not only are they charging credit cards without providing service, but they're also devastating businesses by causing nonfunctional websites.

I've owned this domain since 2003 and the website is crucial to my business. I sold more than $40k in goods via the site during the final weeks of 2005. And since the renewal hasn't been processed, the site is down and I can't do anything about it. I've tried transferring it to another registrar, but it's been "locked" by Registerfly. I was told they'd unlock it once the renewal was complete (in 24 hours).

Is there anything I can do to reclaim my domain name? I realize I could contact my credit card to dispute the renewal fees, but that minimal charge ($17.98) isn't my concern. I'm at my wits end. I've submitted 8 support tickets, called 5 times and spent more than 3 hours on hold; I've contacted every agency I can think of - all to no avail. Any advice would be enormously appreciated.

Registerfly has been having problems ever since they broke off with their registrar partner
Enom. Last I checked, they're now doing a batch renewal process.

I can't seem to find a way to contact you. Kindly PM me if you can, I might have something
for you.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response. I wasn't able to send a PM, but I'm happy to provide my email address. It's [email protected]

I used the live chat feature on Registerfly yesterday and was again told to wait 24 hours. I explained it's been nearly 3 weeks and asked if there was anything I could do to regain control of my site or to expedite the process and I was told "Sorry. No."

They just responded to my 9th support ticket, saying it takes 1-5 days to process the renewal. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow. They also advised me not to open any more tickets or it will further delay my renewal.

Apparently there is absolutely no effective regulation of domain registration practices. I intend to contact my state representatives next. This lack of oversight is costing legitimate small businesses their livelihood. I read about another company that had invested a large amount of money in pre-holiday advertising and their site is also down due to Registerfly.

Unbelievable. These people need to be shut down.

Just my luck. My email's having problems. :(

Meanwhile I'll tell you on the spot to wait it out a bit. I realize it's unacceptable, but this is
seriously one thing Registerfly doesn't have complete control over due to the domain name
being actually registered with Enom.
