I made the most expensive mistake of my life. I was engaged to a man who was filling for bankruptcy after his divorce. He promised marriage to me. During the stage of divorce and custody fight I lent him money with the understanding that it was to be repaid. Engaged or not he was to repay it (my life savings and credit cards). Ok when he filed for bankruptcy he left me with a bad feeling but suddenly when to proceed with the engagement I was going to object to allowing me to be included in the bankruptcy but with marriage intended I thought we would be togther so not to worry since the money would be a communial pot. Well guess what after bankruptcy no marriage , he paid for a short time but then decided he wasn't going to pay. He wrote me a letter stating he had intintion on repaying this was written after the bankrupcty finalized. Took him to court recently to have it reopend since this woudl be considered a reaffrimation of a debt. The court s denied reopening. Dont' let this happen to you. A better rule would be, "don't loan what you can't afford to lose!"
