My son is 17 and wants to live with me

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA

My ex wife and I have been divorced for 15 years, and my oldest son (17)is now living with me. My ex-wife still has primary legal custody, but after many arguments and fights between my ex and son,my ex and I came to a verbal agreement that he could come live with me, as long as I continued to pay child support for him. We also agreed to a vistation schedule which gives her vistation evry other weekend.

A few months ago I moved closer to my ex in order to facilitate this move, and so that my son could continue to stay in the same school, and until recently this arrangement has worked.

My son is now asking how he can go to court to legally change custody from his mother to me. I've told him that I do not have the money at this point to go back to court to challenge custody, but I will support him if he were to file for custody change on his own.

My question is, is he of age were he can challenge custody rights on his own ?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Why on EARTH would a legal CHILD think it is his responsibility to deal with custody issues??

DAD! Go to flippin' court and file for a custody change based on the COC you now have! Stop placing the burden of this ADULT issue on your CHILD!!!!
