state: california
balance on credit card: $5748; settlement amount $3449.
i paid off the settlement amount with the credit card issuer with another credit card. the collection agency also insisted that i give them my bank account number and assured me that they won't take off money form by bank if the balance transfer went through. but they took off $3449 from my bank as well as from the credit card. now the credit card issuer and collection agency are saying that i can only get back $1150 instead of $3449 which i had not authorized to take them from my bank account.
the collection agency admitted that money should not have been taken off my bank but they say they can refund me only $1150 instead of $3449. do i have any claim to the difference ($2299)? please advice me.. thanks

You're outta luck. You coud sue, but you'd most likely lose.

For the benefit of everyone else (and I've said it a thousand times) NEVER give anyone your bank account information... especially a collection agency.

Giving someone your bank account information is the same as giving them a blank signed check.
