What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Dakota / Minnesota

I got a DUI in ND about two months ago and just got done with all the court stuff, paying my fine, doing assessments, ect.

In May I got a letter from the ND state DMV stating my license was pulled for 90 days and I had to pay a reinstatement fee before I can drive again. This all makes sense to me and I have started to go through the wait period before I am eligible.

Today I received a letter from MN stating that I also owe them a reinstatement fee of 680 because I had a MN license at the time I got pulled over. I have been living in ND for about 6 months and have been paying ND taxes.

Can Minnesota and North Dakota both come after me for a fee although I am currently a ND resident and was driving in ND when I was pulled over.

Any advise would be appreciated.

You might want to check, but unless MN is also suspending your license, you can probably pass on that fee unless you go back there.

However, if the only valid license you had at the time of the arrest is from MN you may have to clear THAT one up to avoid your ND license status from once again being suspended.

Thanks for the reply. My license was my only valid ID at the time so it may be a loss. The worse part is a MN reinstatement fee is 680 and ND is 100. I have already began doing all my ND reinstatement requirements and would hate to go through it all again.

I do have documents like electric bills and such showing I have been in ND for a while and was living here at the time I got pulled over, do you think this would help or is even worth pursuing?

I live right on the border of both states and know someone who got a dui in ND with a MN license and they didn't have to do anything for the state of MN. The only difference is I got a letter.

Well, just paying taxes in ND wasn't enough. You were expected (and boy is ND more lenient than everywhere else I've been) to get a ND license if you were in the state more than 90 days. If you'd done so, you'd only be dealing with the state of ND.

However, since MN revoked you, you'll have to get that resolved. Even though ND may reinstate your driving privs for a paltry sum, no state will give you a driver's licensed until you fix the issue in MN.
