Dover Publications advertises it's vintage illustration books as "copyright free" material. However, there are two contradictory statements inside the book cover that give me concern.
1. No more than 10 images may be used in any one art piece/project
2. No part of the book may be reproduced

Is this not contradictory? I am a digital collage artist and would like to use some of the vintage illustration in a composition I'm developing, but now I'm concerned about copyright infringement. I had not planned to use more than 10 individual plates, and now I don't know if I can use any? Please advise...Thanks

My response:

Now, who would be the best person to ask about a Dover Publication? That's a hint.

Duh... I've already tried that. But either I cannot reach the right person at their office, via phone or email, and I get sent from one person to the rest... Just thought this might have been a question previously asked and that someone might have encountered a similar situation... Thanks for your reply though...
