What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I am in Michigan and have been dating a single dad for over a year. I believe he originally had to pay $600 a month. This was some time ago. (maybe 6 years?) After falling behind due to lack of work, she denied him the right to see his daughter (now 13). He hasn't been employed for a long time and wants to get back on track but doesn't know where to start.
He now has a warrant for his arrest due to the delinquent payments. How is one to apply for a downward mod? And does anyone know about free or inexpensive legal help for dad's trying to get back on track? I am equally as curious about what people may know about PAS (parental alienation syndrome) As he has been completely cut off for over two years.

Because a warrant has been issued he first needs to turn himself in and go to court. In court the court can issue an order to make specific arrears payments.

He should forget about the PAS, right now he needs to concentrate on getting back to paying CS, then he can work on enforcing his visitation order.

Jail time...

Two questions:
1. Is there anyway for him to start paying what he was asked to pay previously, without going to jail?

I'm a single mother of three who has never collected child support and I am completely and entirely perplexed by the system that says, if you do not have the money to pay, we will lock you up. He is useless behind bars.

2. If he were to turn himself in, is there a maximum time or dollar amount that he could be made aware of ahead of time?

For obvious reasons anyone would be ridiculously apprehensive. I know 5 men, 2 of which are siblings that live like illegal aliens in their own country, unable to work or have a home.

What is the incentive for a single dad, who feels the system is against him straight out of the gate. What opportunities are available for men who want to get back on track, without serving time?

I've heard of jailed-for-not-paying-CS fathers who ended up doing work release during their jail time to pay the arrearages. So, who says they can't/don't work?
