What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OHIO
I know this is kinda long . . .
My daughter recently got married. Her husband has been cited for driving with a suspended license at least three times. In April he was stopped and and lied to the officer telling him that his insurance agent had " lost his information " .His license was suspended for one year, 10 days house arrest , and a $1000 fine , but he had the privledge to drive to and from his place of employment. One week before the wedding ( July ) he was caught driving again. He had a hearing at that time , with sentencing to take place on September 17. One week after the wedding , he was again stopped by an officer in another town , who confiscated his registration plates , and he had to sell his car because he couldn't drive it home. I should add that in all cases he was not going to or coming from work. He had a hearing by a judge in that town and was sentenced to 20 hours community service, and a $400 fine.
He as not yet paid any of the fines / costs.

We ( the family ) have been wondering what he should expect as a sentence at the hearing in Sepember. According to the information I've found on the internet , he MAY receive a 90 day stay at the local " Jail Hotel " , loss of his license for 3-5 years and further fines. The main reason I ask is because various family members ( mostly daughter's grandfather and myself ) have been put iinto service as " chauffers " taking him to work , her to the bank , shopping etc. and truthfully it's getting a little old.

Thank you for a prompt reply.

I'm not a lawyer, but.....

I'm not from Ohio either, but back in '02 I had a driving while revoked/ suppended here in Mo. At the time I also had a DWI case pending. Long story short, for the DWR charge, there was a two day mandatory mininum jail term I had to serve. Plus a fine of about 275 dollars, counting court fees. Also, I had to pay $30 a day for the two days in jail. In Mo. driving while revoked is a class A misdemeanor, the same as a non-felony DWI. And, my lawyer said that if a person gets several of these class A charges in three to five years, the state has the option to esculate the charge to a class D felony. By the way, I still don't have a drivers licence. But, I bought a ten speed bike back then and that way I don't have to bother other people for a ride. I just moved closer to my job, and am waiting my time out. Good luck!

Various family members cannot be put into service without their permission. I'd have a serious problem catering to a person with such a blatant disregard of the law. I'd give him a monthly bus ticket, and a bus schedule, and stop offering rides.
