I am from Alabama. Let me just say that I am not proud of this, and that It was a different time in my life. Four years ago, while I was an officer in the National Guard I smoked MJ once. I cant say that I even inhaled it (funny as that may sound), but thats not what is asked in a sf 86 background investigation. I am now out of the guard and applying for a federal job. I understand that "one time users" are ususally cleared and still get their governement jobs. Will I get treated differently because I already possesed a security clearance at the time ? Will I get denied entry into the federal government even if I prove that this was the only time?

thank you

Generally, conditions that mitigate security concerns and allow for security clearances to be approved, are that the drug involvement was not recent and/or the drug involvement was an isolated or aberrational event and/or there is a demonstrated intent not to abuse any drugs in the future and/or there has been a satisfactory completion of a drug treatment program without any recurrence of drug abuse and a favorable prognosis has been given by a credentialed medical professional.

A one-time use of marijuana while in the National Guard four years ago should not alone result in any denial of federal government employment.

herc - You keep asking questions on other posters' threads, unrelated to their posts. Consolidate all of your questions into a thread of your own. Thanks.
