drunk driving charges - a question

I work for a very small newspaper in Porter County Indiana. We frequently get police reports faxed here and a large number are for drinking and driving related offenses. My question is are there any difference between driving whil impaired, driving under the influence and others. The same police agency may list different chsrges for the same thing but with different offendors. Are there any difference in penalties.
