What is the name of your state? Northern California

This past weekend there was a fight inside of the club and i was involved. There was about 5-6 people involved and we were asked to leave. On the way out a cop was asking a few questions nothing. He stopped talking so i thought he was done so i started to walk over to my friends. He then yelled and said i was under arrest for drunk in public. He took me into the station searched me and asked a few questions again. He said i was charged with drunk in public and, not yet but he was trying to charge me with battery. When i got out 4 hrs later i was booked, fingerprinted etc. The cop then told me my formal charges were 647f - drunk and public and 242 - battery misdemeanor (the battery part was actually filled in with pencil, obviously at a later time.) I have court next month, what should i expect? should i get an attorney? or im sure i am eligible for a public defender.

Ah, a bar brawl with a bunch of drunks ... grand.

Actually, it's PC 647(f) ... PC 647f is a different offense.

When you go to court you will be asked to make a plea and if you have or need counsel. If you can afford an attorney, you really should employ one before that time. You will only be eligible for a public defender if you meet whatever criteria is placed on that ... if you have a decent job and/or assets, you may not qualify for a public defender.
