What is the name of your state? Washington. My brother recently had a stroke. He was out of work with no insurance at the time. I would like to buy a piece of property and build a house for me and a mother-in-law house for him. He owns a modest home outright. DSHS said they would put a lien against him upon death. He is allowed to sell his home and put the "net" equity into another home. Can he build on MY property? If so, what happens if he dies before me? How would they collect on the lien? Would I have to pay it off? Or, would it become a lien upon MY death?

It sounds like you are on the verge of trying to defraud the government.

But, if YOU want to build a house on YOUR property using YOUR money and let someone live there for free, I don't guess anyone can stop you!
