I am curious about what my options are in a situation where I ordered DSL service from a large nationwide provider, and it has taken 7 months to get hooked up. I am located in California. My questions are:

How would I find out if there is some sort of class action against this company?

Is this something I, or a large group of people, would even have a case with?

On May 6th of 2000 I was told everything was OK and I would receive my service in 4-6 weeks. Then roughly every month after that I was assured it would be hooked up by the next month until now. I doubt that I am the only person to experience this particular form of teasing at the hands of this company. While I can see no reason for the company to lead me on purposefully, it seems there should be a certain amount of accountability on their part. I could have signed up with a different service months ago, but they kept assuring me that by the time I could switch to someone else they would have my connection complete. My work has come to depend on my ability to transmit files to remote locations, and find research material on the WWW and corporate FTP sites. This leads me to another question. If this is some sort of false advertising, or whatever, how do I even quantify damages? What I really want is for this company to get in big trouble with . . . whoever has a ruler big enough to slap their collective wrists.
