What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina
I was just wondering if you could insure the vehicle in which you have your Interlock system in someone else's name. The vehicle I own is registered and titled to me, but my insurance is covered by someone else. Can I do this?

No purpose, I understand how this would look, but I am a full time student and do not pay my own insurance. Just want to know if this is possible? When I called the Interlock company, they asked if the vehicle was registered in my name, but didn't ask about the insurance and it just occurred to me that this might be an issue.

Yes, it does look...questionable. If it is your car and you drive it, the insurance should be in your name. If somebody else wants to give you the money to pay your insurance there would obviously be no problem. I suspect there is something going on that your insurance company might have a problem with though. If there is, they might find a way out of covering you should anything happen.

I suppose you should call your friends insurance company and ask if you are committing insurance fraud.

not legally..insurance is rated upon risk...so the primary driver of the car needs to be rated...I am not sayin the insurance co wouldn't pay if an accident happened but they could also very well deny it.

If the person insuring the car has no ties to the car (like doesn't live with you, doesn't own the car and doesn't drive it) then they really have no business insuring it.

Hope this helps (I sell insurance) =)
