What is the name of your state? Florida

Good day,

I got 2 DUI's in Michigan in 2001. I paid my fines, and did all the other stuff (AA, impact panel, probation) and I now want to start driving again. I know I have to apply for reinstatement of my privledges (at least I think I do) via mail. I am curious about this, after all this time, will I be restricted in any way with my new license here in Florida?
Also, how complicated will it be to get my license here in Florda and insurance as well?

Thanks in advance

You have to satisfy the requirements in Michigan before Florida can do anything. If you've done this, then there likely will be some procedure you'll have to go through in Michican to get your ability to obtain your license. The Michigan DMV can answer that. Once you've gotten the green light in Michigan, then you can work on your Florida license.

As far as restrictions go, I would expect Florida to follow whatever Michican does

As far a complicted goes, well, anytime you deal with the DMV there are potential possibilites for complications, especially since your case invovles 2 DMV's. With regard to insurance, I'm sure there's folks out there who will sell you insurance. The question is at what price? I would look at both the SR22 insurance companies and the regular insurance companies and compare prices. The reason is that the SR22 companies specialize in insurance for DUI offenders. It's possible they can get you better rates.

Good luck

What?!?!?!?

Most insurance companies sell policies to people with all types of driving records, nowadays. Anyway, you can contact the department of motor vehicles in FL, who will probably refer you to the department of motor vehicles in MI. You will need to find out if you are required to get an SR22. If you are required to get an SR22 for MI, then you are limited because most companies will NOT write an out of state SR22. Then you need to find out if FL will also require the SR22. In any case, you will be required to get liability limits that are higher than the legal requirement for FL (10/20, if you purchase liability at all). You will be required to have liability limits of at least $20,000/$40,000/$10,000, which is the minimum for MI. Again, this is assuming that you ARE required to have an SR22.

I live in Michigan also, and am going through the exact same thing you are, except i haven't moved yet. I went to the review board and was denied. I am getting ready to get another DMV review board hearing. I am pretty sure you still need to go through the same process I have gone through.( assuming your license was "revoked" and not suspended)

I have recieved my out of state packet and am getting all the infor together to send it out.

My license was revoked due to the DUIs and I have no idea ho this is going to go. My tickets were due to speeding in one case (50 in a 40) and there was no accident, of course I know that doesn't matter.

Good luck, dude.

Thanks,

I have recuieved my out of state reinstatement request packet in the mail and am gathering all the info I need.
I hope this goes well, it's been 5 friggin years and I need a car and a license again, just to get through my life.

Will I really need that SR22? That will totally suck because I know how expensive it is.
