I have a DUI warrant that is outstanding since 1994....
I was pulled over in va. taken to jail for DUI.. I posted bail and was released.
I appeared in court on the date i was suppose to and told the Judge that my lawyer ask for a postponment, it was granted. ( all a lie from me)
I left the state of va. and I still had my license which i transferred over to Ohio because the courts never had them... I was issued an Ohio license with nothing coming up for an DUI..... now I live in Fla. and still maintain a clean license with nothing on them..... I understand i cannot be arrest nor taken back for this charge....My question is their a statue limitation as to how long this warrant is good for?.......I called Va and the lady told me to come and turn myself in....I said i will do it over the phone.... they still have my 500 dollar bail money which i posted it in cash.....hope to hear something soon....
it happen in Bedford county..... on 460 east......thanks Bill

A: No; the statute of limitation is a time within which the government can file a charge. The charge is already filed. The only way you can take care of this is by surrendering in Virginia.

Seniorjudge has hit the nail on the head once again. Your best bet is to turn yourself in. It will be a whole lot easier than getting stopped for not using your turn signal, speeding, defective equipment, etc. and having the officer find out that you have a FTA. Do you really want to go through the hassle of being arrested and taken to the local lock-up to wait and find out what VA wants to do with you? Turn yourself in.

A: They can suspend it even if you don't turn yourself in.

A: I do not know.

Yes they can suspend your FL operators license. The FTA warrant will follow you where ever you go. Your bail money is gone. You skipped bail. The bail money is to ensure that you appear in court. You didn't appear. If you appear in court for the DUI , as a first offense DUI in VA, if found guilty your license will be suspended for one year. You will not be able to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of VA whether with a VA or a FL license. When I was in the military we had this problem a lot, especially with sailors. They would be licensed in say FL or some other state and still suspended in VA. Yes they would still be charged with operating under a suspension. Hope this helps.

Oh by the way Turn yourself in!!
