What is the name of your state? origianally Virgina
I was pulled over for a DUI and before completing the classes I moved to PA to help my mom out My License was temporarily suspended and so I completed the class in PA and paid the fine. I did serve 2 days in jail prior to moving to PA. Now that my classes are completed I still can't get my license & I am being told that I need and ignition thing attatched to it of I were to get a license. I am stressed because I need to drive for work or I am going to loose my job and the Judge in VA never told me that I had to have one of them put on.....How can I get out of this mess.
ANY SUGGESTIONS??????? Marie01:confused:

If you have a prior DUI, the state of PA requires the interlock device for one year.

"Drivers who receive a second or subsequent DUI violation on or after September 30, 2003, can no longer serve an additional one year suspension in lieu of obtaining an ignition interlock device. Drivers are required to install ignition interlock on all vehicles owned (including leased) before driving privileges can be restored.
-Effective September 30, 2003"

For anyone in PA considering driving without one:
"Ignition Interlock Violations:Individuals convicted of driving without or tampering with the ignition interlock device will have their ignition interlock period extended 12 month from the date of conviction for the first offense and will have their driving privileges suspended for 12 months for the second or subsequent offenses. Upon restoration they must comply with ignition interlock for 12 months. Individuals, whose driving privileges are suspended during the ignition interlock period for a non-ignition interlock violation, must complete the ignition interlock period upon restoration.
-Effective February 1, 2004 "

The only exemptions are financial, in which case you can apply for using the device on only one vehicle; and in some cases can drive a company vehicle without the device.

Contact the PA DMV Driver Suspension Unit. They should be able to provide you with approved Ignition Interlock companies in your area. Schedule an appointment to have an interlock installed. You'll likely also need proof of completion of alchohol school, and you may also have to be enrolled in what many States call a Restricted License Monitoring Program. These programs are often provided by the organizations that conduct the alchohol schools and involve things like monthly meetings. But this depends on the requirements of PA DMV. PA may or may not be different.

Thanks for your help, I should have added that since then I am in Florida so now I am battling 3 states. The DUI was originally in Virginia about 3 years ago then I immediatly moved to PA and a year ago I moved to Florida. Noone seems to be able to give me a straight answer. Does anyone know who I would contact about not having the ignition requirement at work? I wouldn't even know what state to call. Virginia is the one who has the hold on my license. According to Pennsylvania my record is clean and they will give me a license no questions asked (again this is also where I took the classes) Florida however says that the only thing they can tell me is that there is a hold from Virginia an dthen they give me the number for VASAP.
Also can the courts sentence me to things I was not aware of like the ignition ? I was never told about that I was simply told that I had to attend a class and pay the fine, that doesn't seem legal. I spoke to the VASAP and they said I had to speak to DMV and DMV said I have to speak to Courts and the Court said that I have to speak to VASAP.
It seems that noone can point me in the right direction. HELP !!!!!!!!!

UPdate on the case, I recieved a copy of the court report & it clearlt states that the only requirement is that I have a restricted license for 3 years. The ignition lock is crossed off and not checked. I tried contacting the judge but he retired (go figure) so I am going to try DMV and whoever else I can think of.

Your issues are likely not court related. Rather, they're with the DMV. With DUI, the courts and DMV are separated, with each having their own requirements.

I'm sure not all states are the same, but I've always thought the interlock was a DMV requirement.

In any event. You're going to have to go back to the beginning and find out why Virginia has a "hold" on your license.

Prepare yourself for a nightmare getting this straightened out.

Thanks for all of your help! Do you know who I would talk to about getting the interlock taken off for the work vehical? It's like I am talking and everyone I call keeps interupting me and noone will return my phone call.Time is running out and i don't want to loose my job. I work with kids and I need my license to drive them around. Since PA gave me the license I thought everything was cleared up until I moved to Florida. I have been trying to contact DMV but the people are rude there and are not helpful.
