I have a 5 yr contract with the army. I have an 18x special forces contract. i have been in for seven months. i have been to special forces assessment and selection and i have been selected. I have decided that this is not for me and I would like to get out of the army legally. What should I do?

tell them I'll take your place?

1. Congrats on selection.

2. Did you tell them at selection 'it was not for you?'

3. What was reseaon for the turn of heart?

4. You still have another what? year and a half -two years of Q-Course and follow on? That only leaves really about 2.5 years? With that being said, The operational Army is very differnt from the training commands. Night and day, different.

Legally, not much. Its a contract. I wish the Corps and the Army would amend the contract, but why, as you obviously signed it. Caveat Emptor....

You signed for a chance at selection but if they didn_t select you or you failed, its back to the regular Army yet there was no similar caveat for you to try it and if you did not select it to similarly decline.

I fear any _improvised_ reasonary (DADT,drugs,CO,etc.) would simply cost you the valuable position in the SOCOM and put you back in the regular Army for the remainder

Good Luck, Stud. Few are Marines, fewer are snakeeatin' quiet professionals. Its your chance in life to be the elite, make a difference at a alevel few CAN and will be with you your entire life. and trust me when you are out, you will miss it and value it. My two cents. Hooah?

Oh my the testoterone meter just went into the red zone

To the OP: It is a contract but (this question is for everyone) isn't Special Forces a strictly volunteer type of thing? I remember being selected for Battalion reconassaince but declining because I just wanted to drink beer, chase women and go UA

I'm with Marine on this one...

To steal those ole' leathernecks slogan (partially) only the VERY few, the VERY crazy, and the VERY proud get picked to run with the big boys.

Two of my buddies from Intel went SF (were selected) and some of the things I was told about (that I COULD be told about I'm guessing) was some pretty awesome stuff.

I of course totally understand what you're going through (see name above)but there really is no "easy" way to get out. Thinking AWOL? (Please tell me you are not) DO NOT DO IT!
The only way I can accurately describe it, is that it will slowly burn your soul away like ether (Nas fans? Anyone? Anyone?) I believe in my heart of hearts that is what its comparable to.

You can't really tell them "the army isn't for you"...I mean, if you drop out of SF, then what? A desk job? A "Petrolium transport expert"? (Not knocking any jobs...but the swing...you understand) What do you say? "Sir, this just isn't for me..."
"Soldier, you were selected for one of the most elite groups in the known universe, and now you're saying "It's not for you" ?!?! (That was the polite version)

Marine is right on point - You have another 30-36 months left of training alone. That will be your life challenge as it is...besides, my guess, once you get into the REAL good stuff...you won't want to leave. You'll be hooked.
