Easement rights

I live in Conn, the power company wants to cut the trees in the backyard all the way down, not just trim. The trees are several feet from the power lines
they just want to make sure nothing will happen in the future. i don't mind trimming of course just don't want them cut down, other people on the block agree. Do i have any rights with this easement? What if i get a petition of the neighbors on the block. will that carry weight legally. is there anything i can do to stop this?

The power company here in Mn cut down 2 mature ash trees in my front yard. They (power companies) were given some kind of a directive from Homeland Security about being more aggressive about trees near power lines. I have since replanted with trees that will not get too big, wish it would have happened years ago then the little sticks I now have for trees would grown. I'd say just take the hit and replant acceptable trees. There were a few near us that opted to have tree "trimmed" they are basically half a tree, may die I would think. If you don't let them take them down you may then be responsible to take down and pay for trimming in the future. (also they were ash trees that now in Mn we have some kind of insect invasion killing ashes so Maybe it was a good thing)

Alot of people were trying to fight this...did no good. The power company have easements so you probably can't fight it anyway.

What a country we live in, with this easement nonsense we have zero rights. A homeland security for trees that is ridiculous. I don't mind if they trim but why cut everything?

Yeah, I was not too happy about it. They did cut trees down to ground level but I am responsible to have stumps removed....actually pissed about it. I refuse to spend any amt. of money to have stumps removed, they can sit there and rot for all I care as a reminder..plus I would rather spend the $ on replanting. Spent about $350 (of $ I really didn't have) to plant about 4 small (stick)trees and about 9 shrubs. Got most at 40% in October and planted them myself. Fall is really the best planting time, trees dormant and is less stress on them plus lots of heavy discounts. Find a large nursery that will have some left overs from summer.

This is similar to what I was given by the power comp.to help pick my new trees. They had a phone # to call which I called and to get each and every tree approved...I guess I was trying to be as much of a pain to them as I could.
