OK, here's the scoop. I got a great deal on a computer item from a seller on eBay. The seller has a good profile and appears to be a legitimate dealer (over 500+ feedback rating). Transaction went through OK, and I received the item no problem.
However, there was no warranty card in the box. When I informed the seller, he told me to just contact the manufacturer and register the serial number of my product with them.
When I called to register, I was informed there was a problem. I do not yet know what this problem is (they just left a message, I have not called them back yet) but I am worried that they might be calling to tell me that the serial number I gave them belongs to an item that was reported stolen.
So, what do I do now?
First of all, what are my rights? If I choose to ignore the situation (i.e. not call them back or do anything) do I risk having the police show up at my doorstep demanding the item back? (Manufacturer has my address.) Or can they threaten legal action against me? What if I claim ignorance that I never made the initial phone call to them?
Or, if I fully cooperate, what do I get out of it? My biggest fear is that somehow I will lose both the item AND my money.
Thanks for any advice.
