Washington.

My son was just banned from doing further business on EBAY. This after accumulating more than 700 positive feedbacks and zero negatives; and doing business exclusively on EBAY for several years. He was growing a business on EBAY. I don't question whether they have the right to terminate a business relationship with anyone for any reason. I think that's legal. I do question the banishment without citing any reason for doing so.

He sells clothing and, more recently, electronics. His customers love him. He's brought many new customers tp EBAY. He's made lots of money for EBAY. EBAY suddenly decided his business must die and we can't find out why. Now what?

eBay doesn't just terminate without at lease some notice, usually by email. So, what was the reason??
Oh, and what was his user name? So that we can see what his recent history was.

I agree, Ebay just doesn't terminate without some explanation. Granite it you probably still won't understand why he was suspended even after a notice. Is there anyone else in the family that has an Ebay account that is suspended? Did he pay his seller fees? Did he list an item against Ebay rules?

I should probably clarify what happened. Based upon further conversations with my son, EBAY didn't ban him (yet). PayPal did. PayPal "suspended" him while he still had several (about 20) active EBAY auctions directing the winners of auctions to pay via PayPal, as is his custom. The auctions themselves were not touched in any way. Displaying the PayPal logo wasn't even restricted.

Many auctions ended with winning bidders who not pay because PayPal would not allow it. That in itself might generate sufficient back-to-back negative feedbacks to run him out of business.

I understand, perhaps incorrectly, that EBAY owns PayPal. If PayPal cuts him off at the knee, who do you point to? I related this sentiment to PayPal by fax. Upon recieving it, PayPal immediately closed his account. But the EBAY privleges remain fully intact.

Please excuse me for not immediately disclosing his screen name. We're still actively, and in good faith, trying to reestablish his privlege of doing business on EBAY. We're still just hoping that a terrible mistake has been made. It's all so sudden...

Again, I need to clarify. PayPal's "Resolution Center" says today that his access is "limited". But an E-mail from PayPal yesterday says that his account is closed. Sorry. work in progress.

That is the problem with posting a *problem* for a family member/friend. You will never receive accurate advice based on incomplete information.

He needs to visit the resolution center and see why his account is limited. He needs to also make sure he doesn't have any open claims. After he finds out why his account is limited he will get steps to do in order to lift the limited access. Sometimes its just as little as confirming your social security #. I personally wouldn't reveal that info to Paypal but if he wants his business back he just might have to.

The resolution center is somewhat like a grand jury. They asked six questions. We gave six truthful answers. The end of it? No. More questions unrelated to the first six. Meanwhile, buyers watching, waiting to pay, growing more skeptical by the day.

Thank you for providing that, but since his problem is with PayPal and not eBay as you claimed...... his ebay information is not relevant.
However, I do see one discrepancy in your post:
You said, "doing business exclusively on EBAY for several years."
According to his ebay records, he started with them only last year (Mar-08-04).

Oh, and you're correct, eBay does own PayPal.
And yes, PayPal will suspend an account if they suspect fraud or improper transactions.

Not only does PayPal have the right to suspend, I think they have an ethical responsibility to do so if they suspect improper activity.

And so does EBAY which is joined at the hip with PayPal. It begs the question: Why be suspended from one and not the other? And why doesn't PayPal state the reason for the suspension outright?

But instead, it would appear that EBAY's little brother gets to engineer a negative feedback domino game, destroying an EBAY business, based on an undisclosed hunch.

Witches must burn.

eBay/Paypal

Hello; I am an eBay seller and I also have a Paypal business account. Many people have had problems with Paypal but that is because they do not read the rules and understand them. This is refelected by the number of people who only accept money orders or other forms of payment on eBay. If a buyer has a problem with an item and it is covered under Paypal buyer protection, Paypal does have the right to limit or restrict an account while they investigate. It is unfortunate when a buyer takes that route without contacting the seller first and allow the seller to attempt to solve their problem but it happens. It has been my experience that Paypal will discuss your problem with you in person and explain the problem, why not try calling them on the telephone and talking to them rather then depend on email or fax. You may get a more complete answer.

Hello Again;
Just looked at your son's feedback, seems that some of his customers have questioned if their product was the genuine article and some have left nuetral feedback as a result. If someone complained that he is misrepresenting anything in his listings, that would be enough to cause Paypal to investigate. It is extremely important to respresent things as honestly as possible. If something is a second or a copy it is important to state that fact if you have that knowlege. I hope he makes out okay.
