Okay my question is I recently sold an item on ebay. The item was in excellent condition, etc. When the buyer received the item he gave me positive feedback and said that everything was great and timely etc. He said no problem to the wires missing he did not need them. Well he said that he contacted the satellite company and they said that the dish is inoperable due to the it was "under investigation" I called the satellite company myself and spoke with a woman there and they said that the satellite is operable and all they need to do is get a new account for that receiver and there will be no problems.

Well my question is the buyer is threatening a mail fraud lawsuit and threatening to take me to court because he said that the dish will not work with another owner. He also has sent a threatening letter to my place of employment, which I might add was the first time we received a letter from him.

Does he have a case??? I do not think that I am in the wrong. The dish works, the only reason that it was under investigation like a year ago is because we were not informed that it needed to be connected to a working phone line. Which we had immediately plugged in to comply with their requirements.

Please help. I am losing much sleep over this. I am not a bad person or a jerk. Thanks in advance.

Yes I told them that all they need to do is get a new account for that receiver and everything will be fine.

I just love these 'ebay' problems.... almost as much as the resale of satellite receivers.
Tell the buyer to pound sand. Assuming that it works, they bought the receiver as advertised. Unless you guaranteed that they would be able to get service, there was no guarantee. Any problem they might have is between them and the provider. For all you knew, they wanted to use the receiver as a doorstop... with LEDs.

Jetx,

Thank you very much. The receiver works fine. And I explained to him all the information and then he escalated the dispute and said he will be filing all these mail fraud and other charges and we are going to have to pay for his airfare and attnory costs. I am totally flipping out because I know the receiver works and dish network told me it would be fine. We did tell him it was as advertised and there was a zero balance, which there is.
Thanks again
Jen

Your buyer has no grounds for his accusations, but if he paid through Paypal or a credit card you are probably going to see a chargeback show up. You will have to explain/verify the validity of your sale and you should be ok....but don't spend the money just yet.
