I live in West Virginia and I want to get emancipated. I am 15 years old and pregnant. I do very well in high school but I do not have a job. I can't handle the emotional abuse my parents are putting on me. I am not wanting to have my own place just to move in with somebody where I would have my own room. I am wanting this for the safety of my child. I do have WIC to provide food for me and my baby when it gets here. I just need help to know how to get emancipated.

No judge in any jurisdiction will emancipate you so that you and your child can go on welfare.

No judge. Any jurisdiction. Ever.

As long as we are talking about universal truths, you should know that 99% of the parents in the civilized WORLD would yell and scream at their 15 year old child that came home pregnant.

One more harsh reality. You have no job. Get one. Now. Your parents are under absolutely no obligation whatsoever to support your child in any manner.

One more point....

Lay off the "for the well being of my baby" crap.

We don't respond well to bull**** here.

Welcome to grown up land. Where you support the children you bring into the world and sometimes it really sucks.

You may want to go ahead and tell the new daddy to get his ass to work as well...

What, you say? He dumped you when you told him you were pregnant and now you hate him?

Tough.

The baby means you are attached for the next two decades whether you want to be or not.

Better start making nice.

Isn't premarital sex FUN?

You're 15 and pregnant? Only two of the reasons why emancipation is NOT possible.

There are only two states that will even consider emancipating a 15 year old, neither of which is WV.

The odds of a pregnant minor, in any state, being legally emancipated are less than the odds that you will sit down next to Elvis on the bus tomorrow (credit to cyjeff).

If you are pregnant, you are MEDICALLY emancipated, meaning that you, with the help of your doctor, can make your own decisions about your health care and that of your baby.

But LEGAL emancipation? By becoming pregnant, you proved that you need MORE supervision, not less, and as soon as the stick turned blue, you kissed your chances of legal emancipation, EVER, goodbye.
