What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California.

Hello,
I know you can emancipate a minor, but what is the law regarding emancipation of a student in H.S who is over 18? the school district is asking us to do this in order for the student who is over 18 years old to live in his own home? he is a responsible young man ( senior in H.S) whom we bought an apt. for so he can live there by himself in order to get ready for college. I was under the impression that once you turn 18, you are considered an adult and can live on your own. thanks for your help. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

The school will consider him a dependent until he graduates from high school. There is usually some document that you and he have to sign at the school that effectively absolves you of responsibility for him.

Ask the school what you have to provide them.
